COPS

Yesterday I was talking to my dad on the phone and he relayed a crazy story that really is something that would only happen to us. A little background information you need to know is that my dear dad owns a business making gravestones. A few days ago, a guy working for him was delivering a stone and as he was driving along, the edge of the stone cut through the heavy duty, nylon strap holding it down.

Nightmare right?

It gets better because the strap snapped, ricocheted off of the stone and hit the car next to them, right in the windshield.

Crap.

The other side of the strap (that didn't have the latch on it), snapped and hit a DIFFERENT car on the hood causing a small scratch. We were so happy it wasn't worse than that and the granite has several other straps anchoring it so there was really no worry that the stone would have come off the truck.

So everyone pulled over and the windshield man said he had glass insurance and was going to take care of it.

Great.

Then hood guy got out of his car and immediately demanded $200. He was very young and my dad's employee negotiated him down to $60. The young guy still wasn't impressed and called the police. The police came and asked for insurance information from everyone and the guy explained that he didn't have it with him, but my dad did have it on his truck. The policeman went back to his squad and presumably ran the plates because when he came back, he put the young guy under arrest!! There must have been a warrant out on the vehicle or something.

Moral of the story: make sure you don't have any open warrants for your arrest before calling the police over $60.
