Shattuck St. Mary's Saturday

Today Dennis and I packed up Ryan and every thread of rain gear we owned and headed south to the Shattuck St. Mary's High School Alumni weekend. What's the connection? Well it was Dennis' paternal grandfather's SEVENTIETH high school reunion. Wow.

The Dane Men in the dark but under the arch anyway.

The Dane Men (Dennis, Ryan, John, G'pa George, Bob)
John and G'pa George (brothers) with Jack Fuller, another member of the Class of 1940
Contributions from Dennis' family made the fieldhouse at the school a reality. It's very cool to see your very own name on a building. :)

The field. Suffice it to say it's very large and if the Metrodome were ever torn down, this would be the largest dome in the state.

Our family bricks outside the Dane Fieldhouse. Everyone in our family that has graduated from SSM.

This is something which may be boring to 97.275% of people out there, but I think it's cool (and my friend at work that reads this blog may agree). It was Junius Spencer Morgan that put up $50,000 way back in the 1800's to build Morgan hall on campus, but he died in a freak accident in 1890 and never got to see the building completed. And get this, after his death, young J.P. took over his father's bank and grew it into one of the largest banking institutions on the planet. Just a crazy tidbit to put in your backpocket. You never know when it may come in handy. ;)

All in all, we had a great time seeing the sights and hearing the stories from 70+ years ago that flow so freely from George and John. I'm so glad Ryan got to be a part of the festivities. Who knows, someday we could be adding a brick for the Class of 2027!
